ITINERARY IN LIMA

Arrival in Lima

The school taxi driver will pick you up from Lima International Airport (Jorge Chavez) and take you to your host family house located in Miraflores. The family will be introduced to you and you will be shown your bedroom and the house facilities. Staying with a Peruvian family will give you the opportunity to enjoy Peruvian hospitality, practice your Spanish, learn more about Peruvian cultural life as well as enjoying delicious Peruvian homemade cooking twice per day (you should inform the family whether you prefer your two meals to be breakfast / lunch or breakfast / dinner).

First Day of Class

On Monday (first day of class), before 9.00 am, a member of the family will take you to the school, located only blocks away from your host family house. In the school you will meet the staff who will help you during your stay. Every day, you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or tea, along with Peruvian snacks at the school kitchen while skimming over our Spanish and English library before classes start. The school registrar will let you know which classroom you have been assigned. Your lessons will start at 9.00 am and will finish at 1.00 pm. There is a 15-minute break at 11.00 am where you will meet students from other classes and relax a little bit before your next two hours of class. Every Tuesday we announce the afternoon activities for the week. Some activities include: Salsa dancing classes, Peruvian cooking lessons, and Peruvian social studies lectures. These activities are free and optional for you.

Organization of your Spanish Course

At least two weeks before your arrival in Lima the Academic Director of the school will send you, via email, a Placement Test that will help us to classify you in one of our 6 levels of studies. Our small-group classes (max. 5 students per class) are personalized, fun and dynamic. Our course includes the teaching of grammar structures, listening, reading, speaking and vocabulary. We aim to develop the oral skills and listening comprehension of students from day one through students' active participation and real immersion in the language and culture of Spanish speaking countries. Afternoons and nights:

Afternoons and nights are free to explore the interesting, vibrant and safe district of Miraflores, one of the most beautiful in Lima city. In Miraflores, you will find art galleries, museums, pre-Inca sites, frequent artistic and cultural exhibitions such as book fairs, open-air concerts, parades, as well as interesting architecture combining modern buildings with Republican style houses from the first half of the last century. Another interesting spot in Miraflores is "Larcomar" shopping center where you will find amazing views of the Pacific Ocean as well as diverse entertainment options including surfing, paragliding and hang gliding.

First weekend:

You will spend your first weekend in Lima and you will have the chance to visit downtown Lima or the Historic Center, where the Central Plaza, the Cathedral, the government palace and large houses converted into museums dating back more than 500 years can be found. Barranco (the Bohemian district), is nearby Miraflores as well, here you can enjoy art galleries and alternative theater, as well as live music and typical Peruvian dance shows with a variety of night life options for everybody. Another district close to Miraflores is San Isidro, where Lima´s economic and financial activity is concentrated. The school administrator will give you maps, instructions and hints on how to best explore and discover the city of Lima.

CUSCO TOUR ITINERARY (5 days/ 4 nights)

Day 01: Cusco City tour
Transfer from your host family house to Jorge Chavez Airport to flight to Cusco. We'll welcome you at Cusco's airport and transport you safely to your hotel, where upon arrival you will be offered a complimentary coca tea. In the afternoon you'll have a city tour from 2.00 pm until 6:30 p.m. This tour includes a visit to the Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun), the Cathedral of the Cusco, the famous archeological complex of Sacsayhuaman, and archeological sites of Q'enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay (worship place of water).

Day 02: Sacred Valley of the Incas
After breakfast, at about 9:00 a.m. you'll have a long day trip to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. This includes the Pisaq market and archeological site. We'll then have lunch at a restaurant in Urubamba, visit the Andean towns of Calca and Urubamba, and finally the archeological site of Ollantaytambo. We will then return to Cusco city.

Day 03: Machupicchu Overnight
At around 5.30 am you will have your breakfast and transfer to the train station for a train to Machupicchu, When you arrive at Machupicchu Town there will be a person to take you to your hostal (Free day).

Days 04:
After breakfast, at around 5:00 a.m there will be a guided visit to the Machupicchu citadel. Around at 16:40 we'll return by train to Cusco and then transfer you to your hotel.

Day 05: Cusco / Lima
Breakfast, you will be transferred by car to the airport for your travel to Lima city. Night in Lima (host family).

Day 06:
Transfer out to the airport for you flight back home.

Amazon Rainforest Tour Itinerary (4 days / 3 nights) 

Day 1: Transfer to Tambopata Lodge

Transfer from your host family house to Jorge Chavez Airport to flight to Madre de Dios. Reception at the airport in Madre de Dios and transportation to the WASAÍ Maldonado Ecolodge, where you will receive a welcoming tropical fruit beverage. You will then embark on a 4 hour motorboat trip up the Tambopata River to WASAI Tambopata Lodge & Research Center (boxed lunch provided on board). During the trip into the heart of the rainforest we will be able to observe clouds of butterflies, typical Amazon communities, see animals such as capybaras turtles and caiman crocodiles, watching all the while as groups of exotic birds fly overhead.

This will be followed by a reception and settling in at Wasai Tambopata lodge and an Introductory nocturnal walk to understand rainforest ecosystems and see some of the amazing trees. Finally, we will return to the lodge for dinner. The diverse and magical sounds of the jungle will accompany our first night in the Amazon. We will sleep at the WASAI Tambopata Lodge. (BL, D)

Day 2: Visit Macaw Clay Lick

Early wake up at 4:30 am for a light breakfast (coffee or mate) to begin our 40-minute journey upstream to the Macaw Clay Lick "El Chuncho" in the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park. We will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery and wildlife of the riverbanks. At our arrival, weather permitting, we will observe one of the great wildlife spectacles where hundreds of parrots and different species of macaws gather to eat clay - an unforgettable experience. After, we will walk through the river beach searching for animal footprints while we have some refreshments. In the middle morning we return to the lodge to have breakfast and relax, or, if you have the energy, to do some adventure activities like: zip line, tree climbing, etc. or enjoy the facilities and the surroundings of the lodge.

At 11 am we leave again to take a 10 minute river journey to enjoy "Cascadas del Gato" (Cat Cascades), where we will swim in a "natural Jacuzzi". If you wish, you can join us to fish in the river, which has more than 250 species of fish, or simply kayak on the river. After lunch, we will have an ethno botanical walk into the rainforest using the Tambopata cross path to learn about plants and medicinal trees of the area. We will also observe the amazing jungle ecosystem where we will see walking palm trees, giant lupuna trees, snake trees and so on. At nightfall, we will embark again on a nocturnal caiman search. Day 3: Visit Lake Sandoval

After breakfast we will take a boat trip to the WASAI Maldonado Ecolodge in Puerto Maldonado, where we will relax in our bungalows and enjoy a tasty lunch. After lunch we leave and travel for 30 minutes on the Madre de Dios River to the access trail to Lake Sandoval, a beautiful rainforest lake. We will have a 3 km hike to the banks of the lake. From there we will board a canoe to paddle around the lake, thus enjoying the beauty of the landscape and observing the wildlife such as kingfishers, herons, hoatzins (unique pre historic looking birds), and monkeys, etc. If we are lucky we will see the family of giant otters which live at the lake. We will also have the opportunity to swim in the lake.

By now it will be time to begin our return hike to the Madre de Dios River to return to Puerto Maldonado. There we will stay in the modern and comfortable bungalows of the WASAI Maldonado Ecolodge. After dinner we will be able to rest or go around the city on foot or on bicycle. We can enjoy the pool and its cascade surrounded by verdant vegetation. You will have the rest of the night free to enjoy the nightlife of this welcoming city. Night at WASAI Maldonado Ecolodge. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Transfer Out / Overnight in Lima

After breakfast we will return by boat to Puerto Maldonado to take our return flight to Lima.

Day 5: Transfer out to the airport for you flight back home

Amazon Rainforest Tour Itinerary (4 days/3 nights) 

Day 1: Transfer to Lodge in Tambopata

Transfer from your host family house to Jorge Chavez Airport to flight to Madre de Dios. Reception at the airport in Madre de Dios and transportation to the ecolodge in Tambopata, where you will receive a welcoming tropical fruit beverage. Return to Aguas Calientes town where we will have lunch and then will take the train back to Cusco city.

Day 04: Free day in Cusco

After visit Machu Picchu and return to Cusco, you will have a free day to visit the town and do some shopping by your own.

Day 05: Transfer out / Overnight in Lima

Breakfast, you will be transferred by car to the airport or bus station for your travel to Lima city.

Day 06: Transfer out to the airport for you flight back home.
